Recently, I won a couple of Ebay auctions because I had the funds to do so. Anyways, I have dumped most of the prototypes but I will admit that some of them may have dumped incorrectly:

Anyways, here is the Black Hole Assault 100292 beta:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LBYV1MKZ
I don't know of any differences but this build was coincidentally compiled on my second birthday. (not that it is important information.)

I'll update this thread as the uploads complete. I need you guys to point out differences and confirm bad dumps for me while I'm trying to get all of this shit uploaded. Also, if you can, upload these betas onto private servers if you can so that people with unstable connections can enjoy them too please. Trust me when I say that I know how frustrating it is to not be able to resume a download from where I last left off after it got stuck.

Thanks!

~Glisp~

Edit: another one has been uploaded:
Fatal Fury Special Beta
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Y0KMYGW2
No build date is listed for this. I also think this one might have been dumped incorrectly. I was having issues dumping it as errors occured. It also didn't feel right whenever I loaded it in Fusion in comparison to when I played it on actual hardware.

More to come later.

Edit 2:

Sega Saturn game: Virtua Fighter Remix beta
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DN7MT0KZ

Apparently, I ended up with a Disc that had no writing on it in this bunch of prototypes. It would not play in Sega CD as a game but redbook could be played. I learned it was VF Remix by inserting it into my disc drive and reading the description that my disc drive gave for it in my computer.

I don't know how well this was dumped nor am I sure it even works because I lack a usable Sega Saturn at the moment, and Sega Saturn Emulators need a very difficult to come by bios.

If anyone would be as so kind as to check this out for me, that would be great and thanks.

I'm going to bed now. More uploads will come after I have rested, I promise.

Hello.

First, thanks for the uploads.

I just test Virtua Fighter Remix and seems to be the retail version :(

I try with the others while you upload more.

Doesn't really surprise me that it was the retail version. There might be some minor coding differences for all we know but it is probably the same in most aspects.

And now for something special:

Shining Force CD Beta
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0GIOJTYG
The opening titles and stuff seem to have different sound effects. The "Sonic Software Planning" screen doesn't say the name. Instead it plays some odd music while just displaying the logo. I think the opening sequence is different too. It has been a while since I played Shining Force CD final so I cannot remember if the words in the opening were said by a female or a male. I swear it was a female in the final. At any rate, the words are said by a male in the beta. Confirmation please?

I don't think so. There is the same master date and hour in this build, then 100% retail. However anybody can make a CRC comparision of the files just in case...

I'm downloading SF Beta now, thanks!

It's probably the retail version then. It was probably used for the manufacturing of the discs then.

Like I said this disc was completely unwritten on. Both sides looked the same so I had to mark the correct side with a CD-R pen. I'm planning on uploading pictures of the discs later.

Also, there are two more Sega CD betas. Both of them are for a mysterious FMV game. I've dumped one but it took forever to do and he size was 600 MB. The problem is that it takes forever for my computer to load the information on these two discs.

The name written on the discs says Johnny M but when loaded onto a computer it says HARDWIRED in the disc drive's icon description. I have looked for Sega CD games that are matches but have found no games with either of the names above. The only thing I can think of is that it is an unreleased digital pictures game or it was given a different name before being released.

The first disc says JM D1 and the date is 3/13/95. The second disc says Johnny M. Disk 2 and is dated a day later. (3/14/95) Disc 1 is dumped but disc 2 keeps giving me errors every time I dump it.

Disk 1 seems to have dumped incorrectly. Video display on Kega Fusion has weird glitchy lines on it. Despite this, all other aspects of the disk seem to work. I'm having difficulties uploading disk 1 but I'll keep trying.

I've been checking the intro of Shining Force and is the same one that the retail.

If they was making a english version of the retail japanese game, then is very difficult find some changes and differences.

Can you make an image from both disc of Johnny M with Alcohol 120 with the ignore read errors option active?

I would like check this one deeply.

Thks again for sharing!

Well the bad dump runs like it does on the console. It just has a couple of video problems. I'm uploading disk 1 now. It's going to take a long time though.

ARGH! GODDAMN IT! I got an upload error!!! NOW I HAVE TO FUCKING START ALL OVER AGAIN! THAT WILL MAKE IT THE THIRD FUCKING TIME!!

This is hopeless. How the hell am I going to get this to you guys?

I wish I had a private server to upload shit to. Motherfuck...

Anyways, it was pointless to dump all of these roms as they all appear to be near final versions of games. Not one is remotely special. I have noticed some minor differences in Shining Force Beta's Sonic Software Planning screen's sound but other than that nothing out of the ordinary. These betas are a major disappointment for me.

The Johnny M. Betas or what ever they are aren't even that interesting and I can't get the dumps to upload and the Johnny M. Betas take forever to dump so it's pointless...

Hey mate, don't worry.

Sometimes is very difficult try to find any differences and sometimes a lot of protos or betas only are retails pre-production versions.

Don't become depressed, your work is important. You try to buy some stuff, find changes and shared with the people, that's important even if at the moment we don't find any remarkable beta content.

Johnny M. betas can be some great sfuff... who knows. You can try to compress the iso in volumens, in let's say 4 or 5 parts for example, then if some fail to upload you only have to reupload one part again.

If you can't, let me know to me or drx and we setup an FTP to upload it.

Thanks for the contribution!

More or less what he said.
I myself have a "Sample Not for Sale" disk of Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram which seems to be the same as Japanese Retail.

Good idea. I can already tell you that the Johnny M. Betas aren't really very interesting beyond being "wtf is this game about?".

Picture proof of the discs' existence (warning might be a bit large. I can assure you they are JPGs though.):

And yes that is a green mark on the blank disc. That is the VF Remix disc. It had no label and I couldn't tell which was the bottom or the top. As a result, after figuring it out, I marked the disc with a CD-R Pen. Fuck collector's value, I did it so I could differentiate it. Turns out the VFR disc has tiny instances of the Sega Logo on the rim of the disc. The FFS disc lacks this but looks mostly the same.

Me holding one of the discs as further proof.

Edit: Just found something interesting out about Shining Force CD beta.
According to some of the files on the disc, the latest last modified date for the files was December 26, 1994 at 1:14 PM.

This means that Sega of America was in the process of translating and polishing the beta as, according to wikipedia anyway, the US version release date was March 22, 1995. The European release date was unspecific but it was some time in June of 1995. The Japanese release date was July 22, 1994. I'm not sure how reliable these dates are though...

I'm gonna be nabbing the Shining Force CD Beta thing.

Just to ask, since that one's under 100mb - is it a ISO/MP3 rip? If so, could you make a raw BIN/CUE rip sometime?

It is in BIN format and the download comes complete with the Redbook. All of the Downloads come in BIN format and come with Redbook unless they lack Redbook Audio on their disc.

Howdy Glisp! For those that are still wondering, Johnny M. is "Johnny Mnemonic," an FMV game based on the film of the same name. The game was released for PC and Mac. A Sega CD version was planned but never released. The game is probably a straight port of the PC version, but it is still technically an unreleased game! Congratulations on your find and thanks for your generosity.

Don't mention it. I still need to upload the Johnny Mnemonic beta Disk 1 and dump Disk 2 but I should get them uploaded (somehow) eventually. I might need to redump disk 1 because it didn't dump quite correctly for some reason.

Sadly, both Johnny Mnemonic disks take forever to load on my PC as well as dump so it will take a bit of time.

Just dumped disk 2. It went faster than the other disk for some reason or another but the quality still looks worse than on actual hardware.

If the disk has a second session with the audio tracks they must be dumped in WAV.

Check the guide at this site. http://www.redump.org/ It's hard but you will get 1:1 ISO.

None of them have two sessions. They all only have one.

I see MP3 files.

Could you re-dump the disc with uncompressed WAV or lossless FLAC or just make a complete BIN/CUE dump?

It should be easy to make a bin/cue dump, as I've done that many times before with Alcohol %120 and whatnot. Having oroper "lossless" data dumps is better for preservation than lossy MP3 rips.
